Rehabilitation Centre at Head Office

HWA Rehabilitation Centre has been providing much needed therapy and integration programme for people with physical disabilities since 1993. After it established the home therapy services under the umbrella of Personal Care Services in 2007, it has reached out to people with disabilities beyond centre based therapy programme and providing much needed therapy and support to clients with severe disabilities at their home.

Currently, HWA Rehab programme offers the following services:

Physical rehabilitation programme for clients to improve and maintain their physical and functional status;
Training on Independent Living skills so that they become less dependent on their caregivers;
Care givers training on handling skills;
Training on basic employment related skills;
Training on community mobility and exploration;
Consultation and advise on purchase and proper uses of aids and appliances;
Encourage clients to involve in social, recreational and community activities.

Rehab centre is working hand-in-hand with other HWA services to create and sustain job opportunities for members. Services include evaluation of workplaces, provide consultation on accessibility and modification of workplaces, post-placement assistance if required.

The Day Rehabilitation Centre operating hours :

Monday to Friday	9 am - 5 pm
Alternate Saturday	9 am - 12 pm

The charges for our day rehabilitation sessions are as follows :

For Life and Ordinary members	$8.00 / session
For Associate members	$12.00 / session
For Public Individuals	$15.00 onwards, depends on financial status of the family members.

Rehabilitation Centre at Jurong Branch

HWA has been operating a new Rehabilitation Centre at Jurong Point that caters to the rehabilitation needs of both children and adults with disabilities. Currently it provides only Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy but HWA has a plan to expand various other professional and support services from this centre. This centre also has a fully equipped training centre to improve the skills and employability of people with disabilities.

The Jurong Point Rehabilitation Centre operating hours :

Monday to Friday

8.30 am - 5.30 pm

The charges for this centre are as follows :

For Associate members	$20.00 / session	$10.00
For Public Individuals	$25.00 onwards, depends on financial status of the family members.	$15.00

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The Handicaps Welfare Association is a non-profit charitable organisation that serves people with physical disabilities. It is a member of the National Council of Social Service but is not funded by the Community Chest. It has been raising funds on its own to finance the various programmes and activities for the benefit of its members.

The followings are the major funding-raising projects organised yearly by the Association:

Wheel, Walk or Jog (WWJ)

A unique event where HWA's members, volunteers, staff and members of the public will wheel, walk or jog along a designated route to raise funds for the Association. People with disabilities usually participate using wheelchair.

The non-disabled participants can assist to wheel the disabled persons too. Funds are raised through pledge cards, sponsor-a-wheel-ride and direct donations from corporations and well-wishers.

Wheel, Walk or Jog 2011

It will be the 27th year running Wheel, Walk or Jog; Singapore's only 'walk on wheels' event. WWJ 2011 will be held at East Coast Park on 14 August (Sunday) from 7am to 12pm.

Collaborations with our main partners, support from National Parks Board and Ministry of Foreign Affairs will most certainly make this event a memorable and exciting one.

With an exciting array of activities, performances, games and lucky draw lined up, we look forward to seeing one and all once again this year.

Venue: East Coast Park, F2 Car Park Casuarina Grove

Flag Day

Flag Day is another of our major fund-raising project. The Association requires help from members, volunteers, staff and students to sell flags on that day. To facilitate the deployment of flag sellers, several sub-stations are set up in popular locations island-wide.

This year, our Flag Day is on 30 April 2011.

Other Avenues where You can help

HWA has been fortunate to have received donations in cash and in kind from various corporations, well-wishers, institutions of higher learning and schools throughout the years.

Corporations and organisations have also helped us raise funds through various innovative ways in order to help us achieve our target. Schools and other institutions have also mobilised their students/undergraduates and teachers to help us raise funds. Our Association welcomes all donations, regardless of any amount, in cash or in kind.
