Transport Services

  • How many days in advance must I book for the transport?
    All bookings must be made at least 3 days in advance.
  • I am a disabled person but not a member of the Association. Can I take driving lesson with the Association
    Yes, our driving services are available for people with physical disabilities who are not member of our Association.
  • Does your Association sell hand control gadget for the disabled?
    Yes, the association do sell the right hand control gadget and also steering knob for people with disability to install in their vehicle.
  • How do I apply for waiver of Additional Registration Fee (ARF) Certificate of Entitlement (COE) for purchase of a vehicle
    Before a disabled person can apply to buy a vehicle under this scheme, he/she must first possess a qualified driving licence. You can call the Land Transport Authority and inform that you are a disabled person and wishes to apply for waiver of ARF/COE. The LTA staff will then mail a form to your postal address for completion. You are required to get it endorsed by a doctor at the Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital. All relevant documents must be submitted and the duly completed form should be send back to LTA.

Education

  • Who is eligible for the application of subsidy?
    The applicant must be a HWA member and without any arrears in membership fee. He or she must not be on any other assistance scheme. The applicant will only be given one education subsidy once in each calendar year.
  • Can I ask for higher subsidy?
    Yes, member can request for higher subsidy. However, awards will be given based on the financial needs of the applicants.
  • Can I book the Dial-A-Ride (DAR) service for attending courses?
    Yes, you can book for the DAR service but it is subjected to availability. Currently, we have the After Office Hour DAR service where members who are attending evening classes or those who worked overtime can book for the service. But members are requested to make the booking, preferably three days in advance.
  • Being a disabled person, I need transportation to attend courses. If HWA's DAR service is not available, I need to take a taxi,
    Yes, member can apply to the Executive Officer, WorkLife Development Sub-Committee for transport subsidy. However, the subsidy will only be given based on the financial status of the applicants.

  • How many persons are allowed to follow the client in the van?
    One caregiver is allowed to follow the client in the vehicle, all other additional persons will be charge at $10 per person.
  • What if I am not sure of the timing for the return trip?
    You can call the office when you are ready to go back, but you might have to wait if the driver is not available.
  • Do you issue any official receipt?
    The official receipt will only be mailed to you after payment is made.
  • If I am staying on a non-lift landing level, can I request for transport service?
    Yes. You can request for attendant service where our attendant uses a staircrawl to bring the wheelchair down to lift landing floor. However, this special service is subject to availability and is chargeable.

Rehabilitation Services

  • Who is eligible for Rehabilitation Services?
    People with physical disabilities of all ages are eligible for HWA rehabilitation services. However, individuals have to be assessed by a community therapist before being accepted for the services. Priority is usually given to newly disabled individuals who need more frequent intervention.
  • How could I make an appointment for assessment?
    You can call HWA Rehab Centre at 62543006 Ext. 219 for an appointment. Appointment for assessments are usually given early in the morning or late in the afternoon after 3.30 pm.
  • Do you provide any transport for rehabilitation services?
    The Rehab Centre specially run 3 vehicles to ferry its rehab clients. It also provides attendant services to people who are staying in non-lift landing floor or people who are severely disabled and need assistance.
  • Can I get any subsidy, if I cannot afford to pay the rehab or transport fees?
    Yes, you can apply to the Manager of Rehabilitation Centre for assistance. Approval is subject to financial condition of the applicant and his family.
