| 07 May 2007 | BROUGHT TO YOU BY WORKLIFE DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT |
With the support from United Parcel Services (UPS), the UPS-HWA Internship Placement Programme was initiated by Handicaps Welfare Association (HWA) to help people with physical disabilities to seek internship opportunities. Through this programme, we hope to help the disabled to gain work experience and equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to secure future employment. Organisations are encouraged to offer internship for up to 6 months duration. Similar to any internship programmes, the interns will be given a recommended allowance of S$600 per month with CPF contributions. At the end of the internship programme, employers do not have any obligation to provide a permanent posting for the interns, but if the employers are able to, they are encouraged to give it some consideration. If the employers are looking at job placement, it would be even better for the disabled. We hope that organisations would take part in this initiative as part of a form of community involvement programme.
