In line with the greater demands of adapting to work in
a knowledge-based economy, the former Education Sub-Committee has been
renamed to WorkLife Development Sub-Committee for greater relevancy in
year 2003.
The new name reflects a more focused objective for training and continuous
education activities in HWA to encompass not only skills upgrading and
enhancement, or hard-skills of a trade, but also emphasis on work
preparation activities like training in soft-skills (eg. communication and
resume writing) and internship or placements. All these activities will
hopefully be a more complete support system to gear members towards
employment.

HWA's Computer Centre was set up in 1996. Together with some external course
providers, like JE Computer& Education Centre and volunteer
instructors, it runs various IT related courses. The Centre can accommodate
a class size of 15 and is designed with spacious aisles within to allow
easy movement of the disabled, especially those using wheelchairs. There
are also assistive devices available to help members with severe disabilities
to learn and to benefit from IT knowledge.
